Mauritius Visitors Reassurance

The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) is aware of reports of isolated incidents in certain areas of Mauritius during the evening of the 12 October 2026. We understand that these reports and localised incidents may bring concern to visitors who are already in Mauritius or planning to travel, as well as our trade partners locally and worldwide. We wanted to share accurate, up-to-date information.

Situation on the ground

  • The incidents have been limited to very specific areas and some residential neighbourhoods;
  • The incidents are obviously not directed at visitors;
  • The Authorities and the Mauritius Police Force have taken additional measures including deployment of additional security around some zones while calm is being rapidly restored.

Travel and operations are normal

  • Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is currently fully operational, and flights are running as scheduled inbound and outbound;
  • Hotels and Resorts are fully open and operating normally;
  • Visitors currently in Mauritius are continuing their holidays as planned while taking the necessary precautions as advised by their hotels, DMC's etc.

Support for visitors

The MTPA, together with its parent Ministry of Tourism, the Authorities, AHRIM, our industry partners, is monitoring the situation very closely. A visitor assistance email: secretary@mtpa.mu is currently available for any urgent issues.

As a precaution, we advise our esteemed visitors to avoid any public gatherings, follow guidance from their hotel or tour operator, and rely on official and authorised channels of communication for updates. The MTPA will issue further updates when needed on its website (www.mymauritius.travel) and our social media platforms (Facebook and LinkedIn).

Mauritius has long been known for its genuine hospitality and the warmth of its welcoming population. This has not changed as we continue to closely monitor the situation. We look forward to continuing to welcome visitors to our beautiful island.
