Mauritius’ resumption after success fight against Covid-19

Since April 26, no local cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Mauritius. This has prompted the government to remove sanitary containment from May 31, seen as a success of the most popular tourist destination in the Indian Ocean. The opening of several branches in Mauritius and the resumption of certain work activities in public and private sectors have started to operate on Monday 1st June. However, physical and social distancing measures, daily screening of body temperature, cleaning and disinfection of premises or sites, use of hand sanitizers and the wearing of masks remain in force.

Mauritian Prime Minister, Hon. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, has considered plans to gradually reopen the economies, including the tourism sector, a key pillar of the Mauritian economy and as a remarkable tourist destination. Current analysis of the tourism industry, health and safety measures and economic impacts are taken into consideration, to ensure the best sanitary measures to welcome back tourists and travellers very soon. So far, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), has recognised the efforts put forward by the Tourism Authority of Mauritius which has implemented a series of compulsory health measures to activate the recovery tourist activities and for tourist operators to adapt to a better respond to the demands of consumers.
